It was always funny to Eric, and he was sure Godric was amused as well, to watch the reactions of their coupling change. When he had first been turned having a son that appeared to be as young as Godric looked wouldn't have been abnormal. As time went on it had to be changed from child to sibling. As people began having children at older ages. As children started living longer.
Of course to prying, foolish mortal eyes they missed the subtle parental cues that came from Godric that were aimed at Eric. They were more obvious after Eric had first turned, chiding looks, swift, quick blows for punishment. They grew more erratic and hidden as Eric crossed the threshold of his first millennium. Still there were times when Godric would look and Eric would fall back, eyes down, apologetic.
As they crossed into the nineteen eighties and nineteen nineties the looks as opposed to curious sometimes shifted to appalled. Godric looked sixteen, at most, on a good day, while Eric had celebrated his twenty seventh birthday three weeks before being turned. Their relationship, at least publicly prior to the Great Revelation was seen as illegal and a worthy offense to get Eric jailed.
It was a source of great humor in their nests. The idea that Eric was the one seducing and exuding wiles over the innocent Godric when it had been, in some ways and still was, the other way around.
After the Great Revelation all it took was a quick flash of fang to silence child abuse allegations.
Sookie watched the two of them in Godric's nest after they arrived shortly after escaping Steve Newlin's psychopathic church. She watched with curious eyes, hidden amongst the people, at the dynamic between Maker and Child. She watched how easily Eric fell into place beside but slightly behind Godric; in an assumed protective, defensive position. She watched the way Eric smiled at Godric, the half-smiles, fleeting and genuine.
She drank her gin and tonic and saw Eric slip easily to his knees beside Godric's chair. The tension Eric held in his shoulders dropped the second Godric's slim, almost delicate looking hand settled on the base of his neck. Eric was a completely different person.
Gone was his grandstanding, rebellious attitude. Replaced instead by a loyal, loving child.
Godric beckoned two fingers towards himself during which time Isabelle strode forward and took a knee on his other side. He spoke to her and she nodded before rising and cleared the room of the people, Sookie stayed in her corner, outside of the room but with a clear view of it through the reflection of a small, perfectly angled window.
The doors closed and Godric stood from his chair, Eric remained seated on his heels. Godric turned and Eric was standing slowly before sitting with guidance in Godric's chair. They talked for a few long minutes before Godric easily settled himself in Eric's lap. One of Eric's arms wrapped around the teenage form and Godric said something that made Eric laugh.
Eric hid his face in Godric's neck before drawing back as Godric took hold of Eric's wrist and guided to his mouth. He kissed it before skirting his lips up to Eric's elbow and bit down. Eric didn't even flinch. Instead he rested his head atop Godric's and stroked the older vampire's hair.
They stayed in their beautiful inverted picture of parent and child for until Sookie left for the evening.
